A program was established in 1981 to promote recreational activities
involving people of all ages who are visually impaired. Events such as bowling,
tandem biking and canoeing are encourage. The committee attempts to provide whatever adaptive equipment is necessary for these sports.
A wintertime
sport that has become very popular is cross-country skiing in the "Ski for Light" program.
There are Regional "Ski for Light" events held every winter across the United States as well as an International event.
The 37th annual Ski For Light International Week will take place from February 5 through February 12, 2012 in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, and skiing at Soldier Hollow cross-country ski area in nearby Midway, Utah.

The 33rd annual Black Hills Regional Ski For Light will take place from January 22-26, 2012.
Ski daily at Terry Peak Ski Area and Wharf Resources Area. Both down hill and cross-country skiing are offered. Lodging is in Deadwood, SD. The cost of the event is $250 which includes a banquet ticket.
