You have just been told by your eye specialist that you are losing your sight and there is nothing that can be done to stop the loss or restore your vision. What do you do now?
Grieving over the loss of some or all of your vision is a normal process. You may experience feelings of shock and denial, anger, withdrawal and/or depression. These feelings are a part of the grieving process. It may seem that life is over, but you are not alone.
There are many people in the state of North Dakota, and even in your community, who have felt just like you. They have banded together at a local and state level to form a support system. The North Dakota Association of the Blind is a statewide organization whose membership is made up of adults who are visually impaired and their spouses or other family members.
Many areas have local support groups that meet monthly. These groups share concerns and information regarding vision loss. Below is a list of the major towns in North Dakota and the names of people you may contact in each area. Call one of these numbers, make a new friend, and find the help and support you and your family need to deal with your vision loss.
